Nano Banana Pro vs GPT Image 2: which is better
Google’s Nano Banana Pro and OpenAI’s GPT Image 2 are the two image models people compare most. Both create and edit images and both write text inside the image, but each is strong at different things. This guide compares them by the makers’ official details, by independent rankings and by the prices here right now, and shares what works for Hebrew in our experience.

- Choose Nano Banana Pro to blend up to 14 images into one scene, to keep the look of up to 5 people, to create infographics that draw on real world knowledge, and to get a 4K image in any aspect ratio
- For Hebrew inside the image, in our experience the new GPT Image models are the best, and Nano Banana Pro writes good Hebrew too

Head to head
The table sums up what each model does according to the makers’ official pages, and what of it is available here on the site.
| Nano Banana Pro | GPT Image 2 | |
|---|---|---|
| Maker | Google, which also calls it Gemini 3 Pro Image | OpenAI |
| First released | November 2025 | April 2026 |
| Resolution here | 1K, 2K or 4K, in any aspect ratio | 1K in every aspect ratio offered here, 2K and 4K only in some of them. OpenAI calls sizes above 2560x1440 experimental |
| Input images | Up to 14: up to 6 of objects, 5 of characters and 3 of style | Up to 16 in one edit |
| Images per request | Up to 4 | Up to 10 |
| Quality levels | Chosen by resolution only | Low, medium, high or auto |
| Text inside images | According to Google, legible text from a short headline to a paragraph. According to the model card, small text is often blurry at 1K | According to OpenAI, improved text rendering, in several languages too. OpenAI warns that text placement and clarity can still go wrong |
| Hebrew inside images, in our experience | Good | The best, together with GPT Image 2.5 |
| Current information from the web | Yes, with the "Web search" switch | Not available here |
| Watermark | An invisible SynthID in every image, according to Google | We found no details on the official pages we checked |
Hebrew text inside the image
This is the most common question about both models in Hebrew, and our answer comes from our own experience using them: the new GPT Image models, GPT Image 2, GPT Image 2.5 Flare and GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst, write the best Hebrew inside an image. Nano Banana Pro writes good Hebrew too, and so does Nano Banana 2. That is why all of these models are marked "Good Hebrew" on the models page.
Worth knowing: no maker publishes an official language list that includes Hebrew. OpenAI writes about improved text rendering in several languages without naming them, and Google writes about text in several languages and about translating text inside an image, also without a list. Our recommendation rests on real use, not on a maker’s statement.
How to get clean Hebrew
- Write the exact text inside quotation marks in the prompt, and say where it goes in the image, for example a headline at the top center
- Prefer short text. A headline and a short line come out better than a paragraph. The Nano Banana Pro model card notes long paragraphs as a weak spot
- Pick a higher resolution for small text. According to Google, in Nano Banana Pro small text is often blurry at 1K, so 2K or 4K has an edge
- Check every letter before you publish. OpenAI also warns that text placement and clarity can go wrong. When one letter comes out wrong, upload the image for editing and ask to fix only the text
Editing and blending several images
Both models edit an image from a written instruction and take several input images, but they are built a little differently.
Nano Banana Pro takes up to 14 images, and Google splits them by role: up to 6 images of objects, up to 5 of characters and up to 3 of style. Google presents it as a model built to keep the look of up to 5 people and to blend many images into one. Its model card also notes limits: keeping a character is not always perfect, and editing by marks or doodles on the image follows instructions only partly.
GPT Image 2 takes up to 16 images in one edit, and OpenAI writes that every input image is processed at high fidelity, so an edit keeps details and the composition. Editing here is by written instruction, without marking an area of the image.
When the goal is the same character across several images or videos, there is a whole guide about it: how to keep the same character.
Quality and resolution by price
In Nano Banana Pro you choose a resolution, 1K, 2K or 4K, in any of the aspect ratios. In GPT Image 2 you choose a quality level, and the price changes mainly with it. Resolution in GPT Image 2 is more limited: 1K in every aspect ratio offered here, 2K only in square, 16:9 and 9:16, and 4K only in 16:9 and 9:16. OpenAI calls sizes above 2560x1440 experimental.
Each image is charged on its own, so several images in one request cost more than one. It is worth choosing the quality explicitly, and keeping high quality for the final version.

What the independent rankings say
Two independent rankings rank image models by the votes of people who compare results: an open voting leaderboard and Artificial Analysis. This is how the rankings looked on October 11, 2026:
| Ranking | Nano Banana Pro | GPT Image 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Open voting leaderboard, text to image (updated October 7, 2026) | 16 of 82, at 2K | 3 of 82, at medium quality |
| Open voting leaderboard, image edit (updated October 6, 2026) | 12 of 59, at 2K | 3 of 59 |
| Artificial Analysis, text to image | 13 of 168 | 3 of 168, at high quality |
In all three rankings GPT Image 2 places higher. In both open voting leaderboard tables and in the Artificial Analysis ranking, first and second place went to GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst and GPT Image 2.5 Flare, and both are available here. Keep in mind that these rankings measure the general preference of voters, not your specific goal and not Hebrew.

| Many versions in one request | GPT Image 2 | Up to 10 images per request |
| A logo or product on a transparent background | GPT Image 2.5 Flare or Sunburst | Transparent backgrounds are officially supported in them, and in GPT Image 2 they are still in preview at OpenAI |
Both models are available here from the same balance and in the same studio, so you can run the same prompt in both and keep the result you like. The exact price shows before every generation, and that is the amount that leaves your balance.
Three more options worth knowing
- GPT Image 2.5 Flare. According to OpenAI it is the fast version of GPT Image 2.5, with quality comparable to GPT Image 2. It has transparent backgrounds and five quality levels, from low to max
- GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst. According to OpenAI it gives higher image quality than GPT Image 2, and it fits when an edit must change only what you asked for
- Nano Banana 2. A fast Google model that creates up to 4K, takes up to 14 reference images and also supports long, narrow formats such as 4:1 and 8:1, for banners for example
