Seedance 2.0 vs Seedance 2.5: what changed

The short answer

• Choose Seedance 2.5 when you need a clip longer than 15 seconds in one generation, up to 30 seconds, when you have more than 9 reference images, or when several characters must keep the same look and the same voice through the clip
• Choose Seedance 2.0 for clips of up to 15 seconds at a lower price per second, and especially for fast, complex motion such as sports and fights, the strength ByteDance names in its technical report
• In both sound is created together with the picture, and you can start from a start image or build the clip from references

To give a sense of price, a 5 second clip at 720p costs ₪4.2242.18 crSeedance 2.0, 720p · 5s · with sound in Seedance 2.0 and ₪5.4254.18 crSeedance 2.5, 720p · 5s · with sound in Seedance 2.5 right now. The prices are computed as the page loads, with the same calculation the studio shows before every generation.

What is new in Seedance 2.5

According to ByteDance Seed’s launch post and model page, these are the main changes:

• Length. Up to 30 seconds in one generation, and ByteDance describes 2.5 as built for 30 second storytelling. In 2.0 the length is 4 to 15 seconds
• More references. At ByteDance up to 30 images, 10 videos and 10 audio clips, against 9 images, 3 videos and 3 audio clips in 2.0. Here you can attach up to 30 images in 2.5 and up to 9 in 2.0, and one video and one audio file in both
• Several characters. According to ByteDance, 2.5 keeps the look and the voice of several characters through the whole clip
• Editing. ByteDance also names video and sound editing abilities for 2.5. They are not available here, where the use is creating new clips

Some things are not known yet: the Seedance 2.5 pages we read give no list of resolutions, aspect ratios or speech languages. For 2.0 the technical report names 480p and 720p as the model’s native resolutions. Here 2.0 also offers 1080p and 4K, but those are upscales: in our test the 1080p added almost no detail beyond 720p, so 720p is the better value.

ByteDance is also open about the weak spots of 2.0: small deformations, motion in edge cases, visual noise, audio distortion, and lip sync that can slip when several people talk in the same scene.

What it costs

In both models the price follows the seconds, so a longer clip costs more, and right now Seedance 2.5 costs more than 2.0 at the same length and resolution. The table is computed as the page loads:

• Sound does not change the price. In both models a clip with sound and without it costs the same
• Reference images do not cost more. Right now 5 seconds at 720p with reference images cost ₪5.4254.18 crSeedance 2.5, 720p · 5s · with sound in 2.5, the same as without a reference
• A sample video does cost more, and in 2.5 a lot more. Right now 5 seconds at 720p with a sample video cost ₪5.1651.56 crSeedance 2.0, 720p · 5s · with sound in 2.0 and ₪22.67226.73 crSeedance 2.5, 720p · 5s · with sound in 2.5
• A long draft at 480p. A 30 second clip in 2.5 costs ₪14.45144.53 crSeedance 2.5, 480p · 30s · with sound at 480p right now, so it pays to test the idea at 480p before you create the 720p version

What the independent rankings say

Two independent rankings rank video models by the votes of people who compare results: an open voting leaderboard and Artificial Analysis. Both models sit near the top in each, and this is how the rankings looked on October 11, 2026:

On the open voting leaderboard the gap between them is smaller than the margin of error it shows, and for text to video 2.0 even comes ahead of 2.5. On Artificial Analysis it is 2.5 that leads for text to video. On the open voting leaderboard both models were tested at 720p. In other words, by the votes the gap in quality is small, and the choice depends mostly on length, references and price.

Reference images and sample material

Both models build a clip from material you attach: images of a character, a product or a style, a sample video and a sample audio file. Here references do not work together with a start or an end image, so you pick one of the two ways: start from an image, or build a new scene from references.

The difference in the number of images matters when there are several characters, several products or several angles of the same character. In 2.0 you can attach up to 9 images here, and in 2.5 up to 30. ByteDance writes that 2.5 keeps the look and the voice of several characters through the clip, and, as mentioned, notes for 2.0 that lip sync can slip when several people talk.

And what about Seedance 2.0 Fast and Mini

The 2.0 family has two more versions here that cost less, for clips of 4 to 15 seconds at 480p or 720p, with the same kinds of reference: up to 9 images, a video and an audio file.

• Seedance 2.0 Fast: according to ByteDance’s technical report, a faster version of Seedance 2.0. Right now 5 seconds at 720p cost ₪3.5235.15 crSeedance 2.0 Fast, 720p · 5s · with sound in it
• Seedance 2.0 Mini: we did not find an official ByteDance page that describes it, so the difference we can point to is the price. Right now 5 seconds at 720p cost ₪2.1121.09 crSeedance 2.0 Mini, 720p · 5s · with sound in it

Neither has a ranking of its own in the two independent rankings. They suit testing an idea and a prompt, before you run the final version in 2.0 or 2.5.

What to choose by use

About Hebrew: the ByteDance pages we read give no speech language list for either of the two, so Hebrew speech is not confirmed. Create a Hebrew voiceover separately in a voice model such as Eleven v3 and add it in editing.
